Innisfail is known as the art deco capital of Australia. It has a high concentration of art deco buildings due to the rebuilding process after a devastating cyclone in 1918. The rebuilding took place in the period between the two world wars when art deco was popular. Today architects are encouraged to incorporate art deco styles into new buildings in the CBD area.
